Every year, World Youth Skills Day recognises the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed in the workplace. It also serves as a reminder of the vital role businesses play in developing the next generation of talent.
At Clarke Transport, we know that our people are the driving force behind everything we do. From our drivers and warehouse teams to our office staff and support functions, every role contributes to delivering the high standards our customers expect.
More Than Just Driving
When people think about the logistics industry, they often picture HGV drivers. While they remain at the heart of our business, modern logistics offers a wide range of career opportunities.
The industry relies on skilled professionals across operations, customer service, transport planning, warehouse management, compliance, engineering, finance, HR, sales, IT and marketing. Each department plays an important role in keeping goods moving safely and efficiently across the UK and beyond.
As the logistics sector continues to evolve, these roles are becoming increasingly important, creating exciting opportunities for people with a variety of skills and interests.
Developing Skills Through Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are one of the most valuable ways to begin a career. They combine practical, hands-on experience with recognised qualifications, allowing individuals to earn while they learn and develop the knowledge needed for long-term success.
Across the logistics industry, apprenticeships can provide routes into careers such as:
- HGV Driving
- Transport Planning
- Warehouse Operations
- Business Administration
- Customer Service
- Engineering and Vehicle Maintenance
- Digital Marketing
- HR
These programmes help build confidence, develop practical skills, and provide real workplace experience from day one.
Learning Through Experience
At Clarke Transport, we recognise the value that apprentices bring to our business.
As a Multi-Channel Marketing Apprentice, I’ve had the opportunity to work on live campaigns, manage social media channels, create website content, support company-wide initiatives and develop new skills while working alongside experienced colleagues.
Learning in a real business environment has provided invaluable experience and allowed me to contribute to projects that make a genuine impact, while continuing to develop both professionally and personally.
Building the Future Together
The logistics industry continues to grow, innovate and adapt. Investing in young people today helps ensure we have the skilled workforce needed for tomorrow.
Whether it’s through apprenticeships, professional development, or ongoing training, creating opportunities for people to learn and progress benefits not only individuals but the entire industry.
This World Youth Skills Day, we’re proud to recognise the importance of learning, development and the people who represent the future of logistics.
Happy World Youth Skills Day from everyone at Clarke Transport.
